Christy Conrad is a proud member of the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska. Raised in a family deeply connected to Native traditions, Christy began attending powwows and learning the art of regalia-making at a young age, guided by the wisdom of her grandfather. This early exposure to Native culture ignited a lifelong passion for preserving and sharing her heritage.
As the founder and executive director of Peacemaker Regalia, Christy has dedicated her life to not only creating beautiful and meaningful regalia but also ensuring that Native traditions are accessible to future generations. Through Peacemaker Regalia, she offers free regalia to underprivileged youth, providing them with the opportunity to participate in powwows and cultural events, regardless of their financial situation. This initiative reflects her deep commitment to supporting Native youth and empowering them to embrace their heritage with pride.
Christy’s regalia is more than just an art form—it is a powerful way to express identity, culture, and history. Each piece she creates is crafted with deep respect for tradition, while also allowing for individual creativity and personal storytelling. Through her work, Christy helps bridge the gap between generations, ensuring that Native culture continues to thrive and evolve.
In addition to her regalia-making, Christy is actively involved in her community and advocates for the preservation of Native culture. Her work with Peacemaker Regalia not only celebrates the past but also provides vital support for the future, empowering young Native people to connect with their roots and carry their traditions forward.
April Conrad is the treasurer of Peacemaker Regalia and a dedicated mother of five Native children. Passionate about preserving and connecting with her children's cultural heritage, April works tirelessly to help children like her own connect with their cultural identity, ensuring that the next generation has a strong sense of pride and connection to their roots.
In addition to her role with Peacemaker Regalia, April is deeply involved in multiple community organizations, where she actively gives back by supporting initiatives that empower Native youth and foster cultural education. Her commitment to community and her desire to make a positive impact are central to her personal and professional life.
April believes that every child deserves to understand and celebrate their heritage, and she is dedicated to helping others discover the strength and beauty in their cultural traditions. As a mother and community advocate, she is always striving to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for Native families and children.
